Drivers who value eco-friendliness and cutting-edge design lean on electric automobiles in more significant numbers day by day. Nowadays, customers are resorting to them in order to save money while avoiding gas stations.

Evaluating the cost of electricity by state and the battery's capacity is essential because electric vehicles need electricity to charge. This may help you assess how much power your EV will need and how much it will cost to provide that power. Assuming an approximate energy price of 10.7 cents per kWh and a battery of 54 kWh with a 200-mile capacity, the average cost to fully charge an electric car from zero would be about $6.

Timing When It Comes to Charging

As many people know, it is a concrete fact that EVs are more affordable and eco friendly so that’s why more and more people choose electric vehicles. However, timing is also important - especially if you live in crowded areas like California. So it is not a surprise that many people ask the question of “What is the average time to charge an electric car?”

There are many factors that may affect the average time to charge an electric car. What kind of energy do you use? What amount of electricity can your electric vehicle manage? Some drivers' average time to charge an electric car might be 80% with a Level 3 fast charger in as little as 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the charging source and battery capacity. However, that isn't typical. If they connect the regular three-prong plugs available in the walls of most homes, the average time to charge an electric battery can reach at least a whole day.

The average time to charge an electric vehicle depends on its charging speeds;

- Level 1

The slowest equipment, Level 1, charges using a regular 120-volt (120V) AC socket found in most houses. The average time to charge an electric car can be charged up using a level 1 charger in 40–50 hours, while a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) can be fully charged in 5–6 hours.

- Level 2

Level 2 equipment is typically used for home, office, and public charging and offers charging through 240V (in residential applications) or 208V (in commercial applications) electrical service. The average time to charge an electric car can be fully charged using level 2 chargers in 4–10 hours, while PHEVs can be fully charged in 1–2 hours.

- Direct Current Fast Charging (DCFC)- Level 3

Direct current fast charging (DCFC) technology, also known as level 3, which has the highest speed, provides quick charging at stations situated along corridors with significant traffic. The average time to charge an electric car may be up to 80% with DCFC equipment in only 20 minutes to 1 hour. The majority of PHEVs currently on sale are not compatible with fast chargers.

Other Factors

Electric car average charging time also depends on factors including weather, period of a day, and target charge capacity. Temperatures that are too low or high can increase the charge time. Furthermore, depending on the period of the day, restocking could take more time due to greater activity and the resulting toll on electricity grids.

Finally, to preserve the battery life, many EV manufacturers advise maintaining your battery at an ideal battery capacity. This implies that charging to capacity is only sometimes desirable and frequently unnecessary. If a specific range is not required, this might help reduce charge time.
